Many authors write about loneliness and isolation and the human need for love. To me, these are facts that are part of the life of every person. I don't really think that authors like Murakami are all that innovative for writing about these subjects. We feel alone. We feel lonely. We feel unloved. We desire connection. Its all part of the human condition. What scares me more than loneliness is connection. Not all kinds of connection. But especially the kind where you feel comfortable and known and no longer alone and then you discover that the person that made you feel that way was not who you thought they were. Or that you yourself had created a delusion of who they were. Learning about ones self is a lifelong endeavor, so can we ever really know another?
